Privacy Policy

ayyat is an iOS app for learning Quranic Arabic. This policy describes what data ayyat collects, why, and how it is handled.
Data stored on your device
- Vocabulary state: which Arabic words you have seen and learned (stored in
UserDefaults). - Bookmarks: verses you save (stored on device).
- Reading sessions: chapter, verse range, duration, timestamps (stored on device).
- Settings: reciter, font size, learning mode.
Data sent to Quran Foundation
ayyat uses the official Quran Foundation Content and User APIs (apis.quran.foundation).
- Always: Anonymous requests for verses, translations, and audio (Content API).
- Only when you sign in: Reading sessions are synced to your Quran Foundation account so progress follows you across devices. You can sign out at any time in Settings.
Quran Foundation's own privacy policy applies to data they receive: quran.com/privacy.
On-device speech recognition
When you use the pronunciation drill, your voice is recorded briefly and processed entirely on your device using Apple's Speech framework and the Tarteel AI Whisper CoreML model. Audio is not uploaded.
Permissions
- Microphone: required for pronunciation checking. Audio stays on device.
- Speech recognition: required for pronunciation checking. Processed on device.
Third parties
ayyat does not include analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or third-party tracking. The only network calls are to Quran Foundation APIs.
Children
ayyat does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
